Grandma's Girls

THEN & NOW

This is Corrina in her "Princess Dress".
The photo on the top right with the beautiful little six year old girl is a prize photograph of mine. The little girl in this photo is my granddaughter, Corrina Nyx Moody. On March 28, 2002, Cori, Archie and I drove from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Walker, Louisiana (1,100 miles one-way) to get LizE.

We discovered that northern Texas was a beautiful place with very friendly people. Just outside Dallas, we stopped at a rest area for the night. We drove through Dallas, Texas the next morning, where, surprisingly, we did not get lost. We crossed into Louisiana around Shreveport, then headed south to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Once we were in Baton Rouge, we had to drive across the bridge over the Mississippi River a couple of times because there isn't anything that compares to that here in New Mexico. We arrived in Walker late in the evening and found Fran-K's Cockers. Frances was gracious enough to open her kennel for us at that late hour. When Cori picked LizE up, she decided that LizE was the gal we wanted to take home with us! When we left Fran's home and kennel, we got lost for a little while, but after 20 miles or so, we got found again! We finally found a place to pull into at a roadside rest area just outside Baton Rouge, and we slept in the van that night. Cori woke up in the morning and took Archie and LizE outside. She looked like such a little princess sitting there in the grass and holding LizE that I could not resist taking a few pictures. This picture was taken that morning, March 30, 2002.

While in Louisiana, we saw marshes and swamps and Spanish moss. It was all quite breathtaking, but it was time to go home. We took another route home so we could drive through Houston, Texas. I wanted to show Cori where her mother spent part of her growing up years, but everything had changed. Nothing that I once knew existed anymore. Even the house that we once lived in was gone, so we drove on. Outside of San Antonio, we encountered a rain storm that was so severe that I had to pull over to the side of the road because I couldn't see to drive. We never have rain like that here in New Mexico! Anyway, we stopped in San Antonio and got a motel for the night. Come evening, we took off and went downtown to visit the Alamo and to stroll the River Walk. And yes, we took Archie and LizE with us. It was such a beautiful evening!

This is a picture of Corrina Nyx Moody on February 8, 2004.

The next morning, we were ready to begin our journey home. We thought we would be in Albuquerque by late evening, but that was not to be. Around Pecos, Cori got car sick, so we decided to spend the night in Artesia, New Mexico. However, once we got to Artesia, we found that the town smelled of oil wells and refineries, so we decided to drive on to Roswell, New Mexico to lodge for the night. The funny thing is that we bought presents for everyone, but we did that when we were only 38 miles from our home!

Anyway, this was all very exciting stuff for a six year-old girl and her grandma! That trip will always be a favorite memory of mine, and I thought I would share it with you.
