I took Corrina to see Ragtime on September 11.
I found her response to the play very enlightening.
They use the word "nigger" in the script in five
or six places. She didn't understand that at all, so
between Act I and Act II, I had some explaining to
do. Reflecting on it, the thought occurred to me
that she wouldn't have been upset or shocked
if they had used the "F" word five or six
times during the play. Does that say something
about our society as a whole?
